Human Rights Campaign: Turning an Event Theme Into Guest Participation

The Human Rights Campaign’s Chicago “Her” event wanted entertainment that fit a modern take on 1800s vaudeville. Dale’s creative hat station turned the theme into something guests could wear, share, and become part of throughout the evening.

The Event Need

Find Entertainment That Actually Belonged in the Theme

The Human Rights Campaign’s Chicago “Her” event was designed as a fun, interactive evening for supporters. That year’s concept used a modern interpretation of 1800s vaudeville variety entertainment.

The committee wanted an entertainment element that brought whimsy and creativity into the room while still fitting the event’s visual direction.

The challenge was not simply finding something entertaining. It was finding an interaction that could become part of the event’s look and personality.

Dale’s Role

Make the Guests Part of the Visual Experience

Dale created a custom hat station that allowed guests to leave with colorful wearable balloon art instead of simply watching entertainment happen around them.

As more guests wore their creations throughout the event, the hats became part of the room itself. The original case study described the evening as developing into a colorful, fashion-show-like experience.

That changed the role of the entertainment: the artwork was not confined to one station. Guests carried the visual theme with them as they moved through the event.

Value to the Event

The Entertainment Became Part of What Guests Saw Around the Room

The hat station did more than provide an individual takeaway. Each finished piece added another visible element to the event and gave guests something easy to react to, compare, and talk about.

Theme Integration

The creative hat concept supported the vaudeville-inspired direction rather than feeling like unrelated entertainment.

Guest Participation

Guests became part of the visual experience by wearing the finished artwork throughout the evening.

Visible Social Energy

The variety of colorful hats gave people something noticeable to respond to as they moved through the event.

The Result

A Themed Entertainment Element Guests Carried With Them

The original case study reports that the HRC committee was pleased with how the creative hat station fit the event and with the interactive experience it created for attendees.

The committee also expressed interest in using Dale’s services for future events. That was an indication of satisfaction with the concept, although the source material does not document a later booking.

The value was not just the balloon hats. It was turning guests into part of the event’s visual theme.
