Tava Sparkling Beverage: Using Entertainment as a Visual Attraction for a New Product Release
For a Chicago release event introducing Pepsi’s new Tava sparkling beverage, Dale’s role was simple and specific: be a highly visible attraction that gave families another reason to notice, approach, and participate in the promotion.
The Event Need
Give a New Beverage Promotion Something People Would Notice
On February 8, 2008, Pepsi hosted a Tava Love Party at Bella Paine Studio in Chicago as part of the release of its new Tava sparkling beverage.
Families were invited to participate in the release event, and Dale was added as part of the promotional activity.
His job was not to explain the beverage or deliver a product message. His job was to be the highly visible attraction that helped draw attention toward the promotion.
Dale’s Role
Use Balloon Entertainment as the “Big Shiny Object”
Dale provided balloon entertainment from 6:30–8:30 PM for families attending the Tava release party.
The balloon activity created movement, visual interest, and an easy reason for people to stop and engage with what was happening around the promotional event.
The balloons were the attraction mechanism. The product launch remained the reason for the event.
Value to the Promotion
Attention Came Before the Brand Conversation
A new product promotion first has to get noticed. In this event, Dale’s role was to help create that visible point of interest around the launch.
Visible Activity
Balloon entertainment gave the event a moving, visual element that stood out in the room.
A Reason to Approach
Families had an immediate activity to participate in rather than simply passing by the promotion.
Promotion Stayed the Focus
Dale’s job was to attract attention and entertain. The beverage launch itself remained the center of the brand promotion.
The Result
Entertainment Functioned as an Attention-Getting Part of the Launch
The Tava event demonstrates a different promotional use for interactive entertainment: the entertainer does not have to become the spokesperson for the product.
Dale’s role was to help make the release party visually active and approachable so the promotion had a stronger point of attraction for families attending the event.
No attendance, sales, or conversion figures were documented in the original event material, so this case is best understood as proof of the role entertainment played inside the promotion rather than a claim about measurable campaign performance.
