Employee Event Case Study
NLX Beverage Solutions: Keeping a Safety Week Picnic Interactive in Rainy Weather
NLX Beverage Solutions planned an employee picnic as part of Safety Week. Rain changed the entertainment decision: instead of using an inflatable attraction, the company hired Dale Obrochta to provide interactive balloon entertainment that employees could still enjoy alongside the rest of the event.
The Event Need
Keep the Employee Picnic Engaging When the Weather Changed the Plan
NLX Beverage Solutions was holding an outdoor employee picnic during Safety Week at its New Lenox facility. The event included Joey’s food truck, local police and fire participation, and Red Wing Safety Boots as part of the day’s safety-focused activities.
Rain created a practical problem for one of the entertainment ideas. An inflatable attraction was no longer the strongest fit for the conditions, so NLX chose interactive balloon entertainment instead.
The entertainment needed to work with the event that was actually happening that day — not the event everyone had hoped the weather would allow.
Dale’s Role
Give Employees Something Easy to Join Throughout the Picnic
Dale worked as an interactive part of the picnic rather than a scheduled performance. Employees could approach, make a request, watch the balloon take shape, joke with Dale, and then continue enjoying the food, safety activities, and the rest of the event.
Because the entertainment happened one interaction at a time, employees did not have to stop the picnic or reorganize around a show. The balloons became another experience people could discover as they moved through the event.
The rainy weather did not eliminate participation. Employees still came over for balloons and became part of the activity.
Value to the Event
The Replacement Entertainment Still Had to Give People a Reason to Participate
Replacing one attraction with another only matters if the new choice still works for the people attending. At NLX, the balloon entertainment became an activity employees could join naturally despite the weather.
Worked With the Changed Conditions
The company was able to replace an inflatable attraction with entertainment that fit the rainy-day event more naturally.
Fit Around the Picnic
Employees could participate while food, safety activities, and the rest of the company event continued around them.
Employees Chose to Join In
The strongest observed proof was simple: employees kept coming over to request balloons and take part in the interaction.
The Result
Rain Changed the Plan, but It Did Not Stop the Participation
Despite the rainy conditions, employees remained enthusiastic and did not miss the opportunity to get a balloon during the Safety Week picnic.
The event continued to include food, local safety participation, vendor activity, and interactive entertainment without asking employees to stop everything else happening around them.
