Aon Corporation: Employee Appreciation Event for 500+ Employees

Aon wanted more than 500 employees to step away from the normal work environment, relax, and mingle. Dale worked throughout the event rather than requiring everyone to stop for one scheduled performance. After the event, the Aon committee continued hiring him for another five years.

The Event Need

Give Employees a Real Break From the Workday

Aon planned an employee appreciation event to thank employees for their work and give them an afternoon where they could relax, laugh, and mingle outside the normal workplace routine.

The event was held aboard the Odyssey Cruise Chicago at Navy Pier. More than 500 employees were moving among different decks and themed areas throughout the afternoon.

Aon needed entertainment that could fit into a large, active event while employees continued eating, socializing, and moving throughout the ship.

Dale’s Role

Bring the Entertainment to the Employees

Dale moved throughout the Odyssey’s different decks and interacted with employees where they were already gathering.

That allowed coworkers to participate naturally without leaving the people they were with or stopping the rest of the event. The entertainment became another reason for employees to laugh, react, and share something together during the afternoon.

Instead of becoming a separate program that everyone had to attend, Dale’s role worked alongside the meal, the cruise, and the conversations already happening throughout the ship.

Value to the Event

The Entertainment Supported Why Aon Held the Event

The purpose was employee appreciation and social time outside the normal work setting. Dale’s role supported that purpose without requiring the event to reorganize around the entertainment.

Worked Across a Large Event

Dale could move among different decks and employee groups instead of requiring more than 500 people to gather in one location.

Gave Coworkers Something to Share

Employees could react, laugh, and participate together while spending time outside their normal workplace routine.

Fit Around the Rest of the Day

The cruise, food, conversations, and movement between decks continued while the entertainment became part of what employees experienced.

The Result

The Strongest Proof Came After the Event

Aon had already experienced how Dale fit into its employee appreciation event. The committee was pleased with the result and continued acquiring his services for another five years.

Aon hired Dale for the employee appreciation event — and then continued bringing him back for another five years.
